Applications

Conference rooms and meeting pods

The application PDLC was made for. An open, daylit floor plate that turns any meeting room private the moment a confidential conversation starts — and doubles as the projection screen.

Why it works here

Borrowed daylight

Glass partitions let daylight reach the core of the floor plate. Solid walls or permanent frosting throw that away.

Privacy on demand

Switches opaque in under a second when a confidential conversation starts — no blinds to fumble with.

Built-in projection screen

In its frosted state the glass is a high-definition rear-projection surface. One fewer piece of AV to buy.

Looks larger

Clear partitions make floor plates read bigger and brighter — which is why developers and agents like them.

No dust traps

Blinds collect dust and need cleaning contracts. Glass is wiped down with the rest of the glazing.

Acoustic separation

Laminated units add meaningful acoustic performance — genuine speech privacy, not just visual privacy.

What we recommend specifying

For meeting rooms we almost always recommend laminated smart glass over retrofit film. Acoustic separation matters as much as visual privacy in a meeting room, and only a laminated unit delivers it.

Zone your controls per room, not per floor. A single switch driving every partition on a floor sounds tidy but is useless in practice — each room needs independent control at the door.

If you intend to project onto the glass, tell us at survey stage. Rear projection requires the projector on the opposite side to the audience, and that constrains room layout and ceiling coordination.

For phased fit-outs we hold matching film batches so colour and haze stay consistent as floors come online — worth requesting upfront on multi-phase campus projects.

Conference room questions

Can we really project onto the glass?

Yes, in the frosted state. It works genuinely well for rear projection — the projector sits on the opposite side from the audience. Front projection onto switchable glass is far less effective.

Does it give real speech privacy or just visual privacy?

Laminated smart glass provides meaningful acoustic separation because the interlayer damps sound transmission. Retrofit film on a single pane gives you visual privacy only — conversations still carry.

Can it integrate with our room booking system?

Yes. With a Wi-Fi or BMS-integrated controller the glass can be driven by occupancy sensors or a booking platform, so rooms go private automatically when a meeting starts.

How disruptive is installation on an occupied floor?

Retrofit film can be applied out of hours with the floor operational the next morning. Laminated glass involves glazing works and is usually phased room by room, or done over a weekend.
